What should I do when I arrive in Bonn?

1. Go to the city hall (Bürgeramt, Stadthaus) and register for your residence permit. After doing so, you will get vouchers for various museums etc. in Bonn, which are usually valid up to one year.

2. Enroll at the university at the “Studentensekretariat”, which is located at Poppelsdorfer Allee 49.

3. Register at the library (MNL-Bibliothek, Nußallee) and get the library card. For this purpose, the German students should bring along their identity and student card. The international students should show their residence permit, identity card and the student card.

4. The international students can extend their visa by making an appointment at the international office (Ausländeramt), which is located at Oxfordstrasse 19.

7. Get a Mensa Card. It is useful not only for paying in Mensa, but you need it also if you want to do laundry in the student dorm. The card takes in deposit 5 euro.
8. Maybe you should also consider getting a German telephone number if you do not have it yet and for sure remember to call your parents and let them know you are safe and sound!
